Some random shots of Spring in Chicago...
Upper left - a giant saint on the flatbed of a tractor trailer waiting to be set upright
Upper right - a view looking east of the Chicago River with the new Trump spire completed for all to see
Lower left - flowers in the median on Michigan avenue
Lower right - a Chicago policeman on a Segway... he didn't look too happy so I snapped a bit of a blurry photo.
Oh - and also for those way better photographers out there - I was thinking about buying a new very portable camera for the blog. I was reading reviews and looking at not spending too much money (it is going to get beat up in my bag) and saw the Canon Powershot SD990IS. It is on sale for $309 at Amazon with free shipping (and no tax, that's another $32 or so here in the city of Chicago).
Right now I have a Canon Powershot SD750 which I like a lot but was thinking about getting something with higher resolution and more optical zoom. I also like that feature with the facial recognition for timer shots, because I use that feature, too (manually with 10 second delay, now).
Any thoughts? It looks bigger than my existing camera, I will try and get the dimensions. I will also check and see if the battery works in my existing charger.

I have been extremely happy with my Fuji pocket digita. cameras.
Whatever you go with get a giant chip so it can hold at least 15 minutes of video. Handy as hell.
agreed on the memory a 4 gig card is like 20 bucks. Crazy
Wow, just a few years ago a 1 gig card was $100, pretty soon they will pay us to carry these things around.
Megapixels are mostly a marketing gimmick, forget them. Try to get a camera that is quick to turn on, quick to focus and quick to take the pic when you push the button. Some cameras are much faster than others. If it were me, I would either get something like the Cannon SD 880, which has a 28-mm-equivalent lens that is much more useful than a telephoto mega zoom, at least for me. Or I would get a Nikon D40 DSLR (or the Cannon or Pentax equivalent, whichever feels best) and a 35mm (non-zoom) lens. The DSLR will be bigger and more expensive but the photos will be so much better, regardless of megapixels, that you will be amazed. But if you just want a camera to carry around all the time, get something like the 28mm Cannon. Also, if you buy it through the Amazon box on chicagoboyz I will make a few bucks and be able to afford food.
ha, with the income stream you have at ChgoBoyz I wouldn't be surprised if you have your own staff to prepare your meals.
Hot Carl,
I have to agree with Jonathan: I know you're looking for something relatively small, but I would strongly recommend a DSLR (I have a Cannon Rebel and wouldn't trade it for anything! unless it was an upgraded model!). I say this because Pam and I have both a Canon mini-camera for quick/easy picks, and the DSLR for the "money shots". Granted, the DSLR is a bitch to tote around at times, but if I had to give up one camera and solely use just one to take ALL my pictures with, I would keep my DSLR hands down. Hope that helps.
(now all that being said... I can sometimes get my mini-Canon's pics to be somewhat on par with the DSLR, it just requires A LOT of Photoshopping)
Now you know how I can afford my luxurious automobile :)
To me comparing a compact digital camera and a digital SLR with a 10 mpx minimum is like comparing a warm can of Pabst to a bottle of a fine German lager. But that's just me.
I would stick to Nikon or Cannon because of the lens quality, otherwise compacts are all the same. Go for cool features and portability.
