Chicago River Views
Walking home from work on Tuesday we had a nice sunny day with a pleasant temperature, a marked change from the miserable weather of the spring. In the evening it got cold and windy again but for a second there I had a vision that this winter might someday end.
Walking along the Chicago River you can see the rebuilt Lower and Upper Wacker Drive - I still laugh when thinking about the time that engineers rated major US infrastructure components on a scale of 1-100 and gave Lower Wacker Drive a "zero". But now most of the drive has been rebuilt and it is much better; they also are working to spruce up the frontage along the river with new construction.
In the bottom picture you can see one of the boats that cruise the river for commuters. Those boats are fun for tours but if you take them on a regular basis you are likely to get asphyxiated from the diesel fumes and it is always a bit of a hair raising experience going beneath the bridges and looking up at all those bums, residents and tourists and wondering what is going to cascade down on you...
On top you can see the flag in front of the Merchandise Mart, with new construction rising along the river.
