Things have been very busy for me but I can't believe I forgot to do a D Day post. 63 years ago yesterday the largest amphibious assault ever commenced and the liberation of Europe began in earnest. Thousands of men raced to the shores, many to their deaths in withering crossifires of machine gun fire, mortars and placed artillery. Here is to the dead, rest their souls, and a hearty thank you to those who made it back.

Glad to see that someone else I know of shares my sentiments. It seems that as the years roll by the mainstream media reports less and less about this kind of thing...
Anybody remember the 50th anniversary reenactment of the landings they had on the Chicago Lakefront in 1994?
Have to check and see if I've still got the pictures I took.
The sheer size of the invasion, and the guts the guys had to have to wade ashore in those conditions still boggles my mind.
The mainstream media have paddled themselves up a one-way creek as far as I am concerned.
An amazing landing and amazing plan, Western Europe owes a great debt to the courage of the Brits and Yanks.
DFM, what it is up? This post rocks, I have been out of town for months, and have not looked at your site in months. Anonymous, do you know who this is???? 10 points if you guess. Hint, banned, but still loved? Jerky Post...
