There is a re-occurring sketch on Conan
O'Brien's Late Night Show where Conan goes to his favorite local bar, where everyone knows your name, after the show - called "Joe's Bar". The only difference is that as soon as he walks into the bar everyone jeers him and makes rude comments about how they wish he'd go away. In the last one the bartender shouts out "You're Dead To Me" as Conan leaves after his usual level of abuse.
Before and after the sketch they show this picture of "Joe's Bar". And for a few years I have been looking at it until I realized... that it is the
Bucktown Pub!

The
Bucktown Pub is on Cortland street in Chicago's
Bucktown neighborhood. I used to walk by this bar every day when I walked to and from the local
Metra train. Conan's staff just replaced the name on the sign with Joe's and left the rest the same. Must be an inside joke by one of his writers who is from Chicago or something like that.
Glad my brain retains essential matching capabilities so that I can link a flash of a bar storefront from a late night TV show to my own drinking experience... that will really hold up well as I get old.

I actually noticed the exact same thing the other night on Conan! It looked so familiar on tv and then I realized it was right down the street.
Check out the Dolly Parton movie "Straight Talk" and see how familiar the setting is. Filmed at Lincoln Belmont and Ashland. That whole area has changed since, but I seem to remember that the bakery where my then future ex-daughter-in-law was working at the time was used for at least one scene.
