I have been stepping up my workouts as of late to try to get my fitness to another level. The benefits of this are many. I have just found one downside to eating right and excercising.
Every part of your body sheds fat, including your HANDS. See anything missing from this picture?
My ring is gone. There is a good twenty four hour window that I have to search. In that window I played with the kids (roughhousing), went to work for 12 hours, shoveled snow twice, stopped at a restaurant (briefly) was in and out of my car a couple of times, slept, took out the garbage and who knows what else. That thing could have slipped off anywhere. Last night when I realized it was gone I felt like crap. Still do, but not as bad.
I may as well just quit looking for it as the only real hope to finding it is that I just stumble upon it someday - it could be in the garbage for all I know, and I even tore through a couple of the recent bags of garbage from home (yuck). If it got into the garbage at work, it is gone forever. The chances of me recovering the ring are about 5-1 in my estimation. The best hope is that it is at home.
This terrible episode got me to thinking about some of Carl's posts in the past where he stresses how important posessions are to some people. Bigger houses, cars, jewelry, etc. He noted several advertising campaigns in Chicago that stress the value of posessions and the aura of success that they show.
Through all of this and after my futile search I realize how UNimportant things like this are. They are nice to have, but not having my ring (and hey, I can buy a new one) doesn't affect my love for my wife and kids one iota. It made me really happy when I told the kids that I had lost my ring and they offered to MAKE me a new one.
Well, it sucks that the ring I have had for the past 12 years is gone, but my family remains and we all have good health. I would trade it all any day for that.
Added: the last known photo of the ring, ironically, is in the post below, all covered with bread pudding. And NO it isn't in there, I already checked.
UPDATE: Holy Crap the wife found it! Right where I was playing with the kids, and the same place I had looked a hundred times last night. Hooray! I guess I need to get the ring resized now. Anyone know anything about that?
