The United Nations Of Tyranny

For those of you who don't know the United Nations Preamble, I've copied it and would ask you to read it . . .

"Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world.

Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the hightest aspiration of the common people. Whereas it is essential, if man is not be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and opression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law."

I write this in regards to two news stories today: Iran and Sudan.

Iran has again thumbed its nose at the world in regards to its nuclear ambitions and plans to go down a path which is going to be bad news for a lot of people for years to come. Sudan, an African country where 2 1/2 milion people are homeless tonight and genocide continues, rejected a UN peacekeeping force which would have stemmed the flow.

As UN diplomats sit home and think about where they are going to have dinner tonight, do Iran and Sudan really make a difference to them or is it just another notch on their resumes for a better job? "Appeaser-In-Chief" Koffi Annan seems content as these events unfold realizing that at the end of the day, what he says and/or does really doesn't make a difference. "If another 1000 Sudanese die today, Oh Well, at least I got on BBC showing me making an effort. God knows I really made one."

At some point in the future, some American President has to stand up, denounce the UN as the fraud it is, and walk away. At some point, an American President can take the current UN Preample to other countries and say "Join us in stopping tyranny and injustice in these other countries." What that means is that roadblock countries like Russia, and China, and France will be with us, "standbyers," or against us.

But I'm only hoping and dreaming right now. The reality of it all is that it will take a huge loss of human life for anybody to stand up and take notice. Such is the way of the Earth nowadays. Such is the way of humans. Such is the way of the UN.
